How to log in using Okta SSO

Step-by-Step guide

 Okta User Log In Process

Step 1: First time User receives a Welcome email with an Activation link with a 7 day expiration date.

Step 2: Click the green Activate Okta Account box in the email (as shown below).

If you have a GFE using a PIV/CAC card, the system may request that you authenticate your log in credentials with the certificate information assigned to you.

If your Windows Security window pops up, enter your PIN and click OK.

Step 3: User will see the Sign In page.

Logging in options:

• PIV/CAC card (Preferred) 
• User ID & Password and Email (Default) if not using PIV
• Okta Verify Okta Verify Setup Guide
• SMS MFA will be sunset on September 23, 2024 and will no longer function.

PIV/CAC card option:

Using your PIV/CAC card access, click the Sign in with PIV / CAC card box. 

Click the box at the bottom to log back in when you see this message >

User ID & Password and SMS option:

Using your username: xxxxxxx@va.gov, enter your password and click the Sign in box. 

                 ====enter credentials===>            

Follow the password authentication steps to authenticate your sign-in credentials.

Click the blue Sign In box.

Click Send code in the 2^nd box. 

Confirm the receipt of the code when you see Sent. 

Get code and enter into space - Pls note: Code changes each time you log in.

System sends a 6-digit code to your phone for verification

Click Verify in the blue box. 

For first time users, click the dropdown beside the authentication icon and choose  the SMS authentication option.

Continue to follow the directions on screen to complete setup at the Finish sign.

The Log in Dashboard for Okta is displayed after the authentication is completed.
